Tour of the collection in English

In the last decades of the 19th century, Skagen became the home of an art colony of primarily Danish, Swedish and Norwegian painters including artists like Peder Severin Krøyer, Anna Ancher and Laurits Tuxen. The Skagen painters were drawn to the area for its natural scenery. Skagens Museum was established in 1908 to preserve the artistic legacy of the painters in the place, which inspired the artworks.

This tour in English provides an introduction to the members of the artists’ colony the Skagen painters as well as an overview of themes and major works in the museum’s collection. The tour begins in the lobby.
